TerraZone: Shoot for the Stars Devlog 9: Main Menu
We have started and completed work on the main menu. We have made some changes since our initial draft. Through combining the menu options into one object it allows us to portray a more abstract aesthetic. We plan to later go back to our dialogue box and apply a similar art style to it.
Objects pop in and overextend their final resting position to give objects a more animated feeling to them. The shape behind the characters is a vector that will be passed between the different sub menus. Being a vector allows us to losslessly reshape it into different shapes and sizes between the menus. The character for Sky also swaps depending on if you’ve chosen Male or Female Sky for your journey.
The selection box for the options is also represented with a vector. The vertices are randomized in their distance from the center to make the selected option more eye catching. A shader was created to invert the color of the selected option in any part the selection box overlaps it.
We will be continuing to work on further sub menus from here as well as the HUD for the overworld. As usual, follow us on Twitter to see what we’re up to next! With that said, the final member of the club will be making her appearance next week. We hope to see you all then!
